The One and Only Ruby

Tuskday!

This brilliant sequel to Katerine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan, and The One and Only Bob is certain to steal kids’ heart. It deals with complex and emotional and extremely important issues, yet, the adorable Ruby manages to provide hope for the conservation of elephant populations.

I love the included elephant glossary , which includes words like trunk-boosting and pondplay. Patricia Castelao’s guide to elephant body language is also a lovely compliment to the text. Patricia’s black-and-white illustrations are filled with emotions and provides visual cues to help kids understand the story.

The perfect way to enter Ruby’s world. Ruby has show lots of bravery during the hardships of her life. Her memories from her past life on the savanna is both filled with love and deeply traumatic.

This book is perfect addition to a project about endangered animals. Or a biomimicry project about superpowers and biological strategies used by these magnificent ecosystem engineers.
